Celebrating individuality,
honoring your body
I’m Zia, a professional piercer and APP member in Baltimore, Maryland. I am deeply passionate about body positivity and piercing as a way to celebrate and honor our individuality.
I especially enjoy the opportunity to educate both parents and their children about piercing safety and proper aftercare.
I specialize in a safe and informed piercing experience, from curation and jewelry selection, to piercing and aftercare. I welcome you to visit me at Ceremony & Fine Jewelry, a modern, safe, and sanitary environment, to discuss your vision and bring it to life.♡
Core Values in the Piercing Room
Education & Consent
I like to start every client interaction by explaining exactly what is going to happen during the piercing process. Then offer an opportunity for questions. I find this helps ease nervous clients, but more than anything it gives the client the knowledge they need to consent to the procedure.
Then I like to give aftercare information and screen clients lifestyle for any possible incompatibilities for healing.
- For example a teen who’s actively competing on the swim team wanting a nostril piercing probably isn’t the best recipe for success for healing. Having a dialog about safety and risk assessment is imperative for the client’s experience.
Trauma Informed Practices
All of my procedures are guided by trauma informed practices. So always asking the client if touching an area is ok, letting them know when I’m about to touch them, asking if they’re ready for the poke, guiding them through deep breathing before, during, and after the procedure. Continuous and enthusiastic consent are key!
So what happens when a client is struggling to give enthusiastic consent or revokes consent? We stop! We take a break, we figure out if there is a way to move forward that they’re comfortable with. And if we can’t find a path forward, we call it with no hard feelings.
Communication
For me, a successful appointment requires open communication and mutual respect. I never want a client to feel like a piercing just happened to them. I strive to foster an environment where clients feel empowered, safe, & comfortable to communicate their needs, and have autonomy over their bodies.
Before a client leaves I like to give them the opportunity to ask any additional questions and make sure they feel heard and not rushed out the door.
